Wormhout lies in the heart of the Houtland, between Dunkerque and Lille. Administrative centre of a canton which is drained by the Peene Becque and the Yser, Wormhout has succeeded in retaining its identity as a traditional small town while at the same time transforming itself with a major influx of population, “ a small town in the country”. The many areas of green open space and the Grand’Place offer a welcoming, lush and flower-bedecked ambience for visitors. The presence in the town of a large number of services, public bodies, lively shops and a host of different clubs and associations help make Wormhout an attractive town to live in or to visit. The establishment of traditional crafts and newer industries contributes towards a diversification of the local economy within the regional context and respond to the local needs. The town’s protected environment and quality of life attract a population eager for tranquillity and clean air. Wormhout is pursuing its policy of promoting its tourist potential, with initiatives such as the recent establishment of a leisure facility at the Etang des Trois Sources.
